Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then found multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism left him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
